Directions from east (Ellsworth) to office: From 172 in Surry village going towards Blue Hill take a left onto Route 176 which immediately forks. Take your right which is Morgan Bay Road. Go approximately 3 +/- miles. On your right is a Yellow Curve sign. The driveway is immediately on your right after sign. You have driven too far if you come to a sharp curve in the road.

Directions from southwest (Blue Hill) to office: From Blue Hill take Route 176 near the Blue Hill Food Coop. Go through East Blue Hill village bearing left at curve staying on Route 176 which now becomes Morgan Bay Road. After a few miles come to a sharp curve in the road, stay on Route 176 bearing left around the curve. #541 is your second driveway on your left.

Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., is the founder of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center's Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Clinic. This afternoon's workshop, Introduction to Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) will give information on the 8-Week MBSR program here in Surry that uses as its foundation the 8-week program that Kabat-Zinn founded in 1979 and who Nancy interned and worked with in 1994.

Dancing with Life Studying Buddhist Psychology; This four session workshop will take place in the fall of 2010 meeting once a month for four months. Each Month we will study one of the FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS and read Dancing with Life by Phillop Moffit, a Buddhist teacher and writer. Practice and discussion and how to integrate the teachings into our work, family, health and relationships will be the focus of this group.
In this four evening workshop we will discuss Buddhist Psychology especially the Four Noble Truths which was the first teaching of the Buddha and relate these teachings to our daily lives through discussion and the practice of meditation.Beginners welcome.

The evening begins with warm tea in quiet, followed by a sharing circle. We will pick a topic that is challenging to Mothers with Nancy as the facilitator using her experiencing of Mindfulness practice and integrating it into everyday life with children.

In this workshop for parents and providers we will explore specific Mindfulness techniques that have been proven over time to bring more peace, balance, and happiness to ourselves, our children and our families in ordinary everyday life. The workshop will include a Mindful Lunch with food provided. Lunch is provided and included as part of the workshop. Eating Mindfully is rare these days in our busy lives. This will give us an opportunity to experience what healthy eating looks like. Many of our physical and mental diseases are relieved when we live our lives mindfullly. Receiving and digesting the moment is really important in this approach. Nancy Hathaway, M.Ed., State of Maine Registered Counselor, offers this Friday workshop to caregivers and parents who want to cultivate and explore bringing more peace, balance, and happiness to everyday family life with children. Nancy interned with Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD in the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical Center, has studied mindfulness internationally, and has been teaching Mindfulness for 30 years. This approach is also a healthy coping skill for anxiety and depression. She teaches Mindfulness at the Continuing Education Center at USM and has offered workshops at Harvard Work & Family, MIT, University of Maine at Orono for EAP, Peace Studies, parent groups and throughout New England. She has been published by Shambala Publication, "I'm Breathing, Are You?" in Finding Your Inner Mama, Your Children Will Raise You, and Best Buddhist Writing 2006. This Afternoon of Mindfulness for Families is especially for parents and children with grandparents, aunts and uncles welcome. This afternoon is a time for families to come together without a busy schedule, a time for parents to explore bringing mindfulness into everyday life with children in a supportive environment. The afternoon will begin with mindful play for all, followed by a circle to say hello to one another, mindful stretches, making a space for a quiet time to be shared with all in the zendo, some meditation and discussion time for parents while the children have some mindfulness time with a long time meditator, and a mindful, healthy vegetarian supper together.

A Day of Meditation; Saturday, July 24th, 2010 from 9am - 4pm at the Morgan Bay Zendo, 532 Morgan Bay Road, Surry, Maine
The morning will begin with tea and an Introductory Talk followed by guided meditation instruction using Buddhist teachings of Zen, Mindfulness, and Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Sitting and walking meditation will alternate. Walking Meditation will include time in the Zen Moss Garden. A vegetarian lunch will be served in tradtional Zen temple four bowl style. The afternoon will begin with the Diamond Sutra. Optional one on one consultations with the retreat leader will be offered. The retreat will close with tea and sharing.

Summer 2010/Week-long Meditation Program at the Morgan Bay Zendo All Are Welcome; All are welcome for this Weeklong Meditation Program beginning on Sunday, July 18th thru Sunday, July 25th. Meditation will be offered to all in the mormings and evenings of this week followed by a weekend retreat Friday, July 23rd 7pm thru Sunday, July 25th 2pm.Training Week--For those who would like an intensive, the week long training is open to all. It will begin on Sunday, July 18th at 7pm until Sunday, July 25th 2pm. Morning and Evening meditations with Dharma talks in the evenings, all participants will help with meals and clean-up. During the morning and afternoons Meditation in Action will be offered with work around the zendo. Buddhist teachings will be offered. Participants will work with, Nancy, a long time meditation student and teacher. One on one private consultations will be offered. Participants will take part in all activities during the week and the week will end in a weekend retreat.
This week preceeds the Weekend Meditation Retreat at the Morgan Bay Zendo.

Afternoon Zen & Tea: "Kwan Seum Bosal Zen Tea"; Wednesday afternoon, July 21st from 3-5pm Summer 2010
Welcoming in wisdom and compassion our small group will open to the inspiration of Kwan Seum Bosal, the one who perceives the cries of the world. As we honor this Bodhisattva who resides within, we will spend a quiet late summer afternoon softly singing this ancient chant quided by a moktak, a percussion instrument used in Korean Zen temples, silently drinking tea in teh Sanzen House overlooking the Zendo pond, and mindfully walking in the Zendo Moss Garden to view the statue of Kannon, her Japanese equivalent sculpted by Zen student Lenore Straus in the "70s. The group is limited to 10

Weekend Meditation Retreat at Morgan Bay Zendo; Friday, July 23rd at 7pm the retreat will begin with a Dharma talk. On Saturday, from 9am-4pm or 9pm, with overnight in the zendo an option. Sunday meditation at 7am with the day in silence continuing until 2pm. This Weeekend Meditation Retreat is open for beginners as well as experienced meditators. Saturday will include a talk, one on one meditation private sessions are offered, eating in traditional Zen four bowl temple style in silence, and sitting meditation alternating with walking meditation. We will do an extended outdoor walking meditation in the Zen Moss Garden if weather is mild. All are welcome. This weekend will be the end of a weeklong training program. You are welcome to come for Friday night sitting 7-8pm and stay overnight in the zendo.Saturday 9AM - 4PM or 9PM and overnight is possible and Sunday from 9am - 1pm. For those sleeping over the retreat will include early am meditation from 7-8am Saturday and Sunday mornings. This weekend of Mindfulness will be a combination of walking and sitting meditation with talks, sitting, and walks in the moss garden will be offered. There will be some quiet time to spend alone and enjoy the quiet space of the zendo and grounds. The retreat will be held in noble silence. Healthy vegetarian meals will be served. .7 CEUs are offered through the University of Maine.

North Maine Woods Women's Winter Mindfulness Wilderness Retreat; February/March 2011 in North Maine Woods The first weekend in March2 CEUs available from the University of Maine (pending)
A rustic wood-heated cabin with an outhouse in the North Maine Woods will be home for three days and two nights. This cabin is on a lake with a spectacular view of Maine's highest mountain, Katahdin. The group will take much of Friday or Saturday to ski in with our gear being transported by snowmobile. The distance skied is 10 miles with the option of skiing part way and snowsledding the rest of the way. The retreat will begin on in the evening after dinner and continue to the 3rd morning after Breakfast. Most of the weekend will be in silence with early morning and evening mindfulness practice and some shared discussion. The middle day will be a Day of Mindfulness including being outdoors in nature, either Mindful snowshoeing or x-country skiing. Limited
